training for the future

As a recipient of a Tito Puente Scholarship in her early years at Ballet Hispanico and training in ballet, modern dance, dunham technique and flamenco, Yvonne is now an accomplished instructor and personal trainer.  In appreciation to the Arts, she is able to provide flamenco and salsa training predominantly for children and young adults.  In the spring of 2003, she was honored to meet inter-nationally acclaimed Spanish Dance performer, choreographer and director, Maria Benitez and have her observe as she taught her salsa and flamenco classes in the lower east side.  The influence she has on her students comes from her ability to not only teach but expose students to the arts. She exposes these potential dancers to appreciate the arts by offering them an opportunity to show their acquired skills through performances, community service events, festivals and workshops.

Her passion lies in coaching and in creating choreography for all types of dancers and dance groups. Her youth performance group HERENCIA made their debut at the Copacabana Extravaganza 2003 by opening for the Gran Combo.    Herencia  dancers have performed in many venues.   Highlights include: Walt Disney World Orlando Florida,  New York International Salsa Congress,  Caroline Pare's  Annual Latin Celebration in Montreal Canada, Youth Dance Festival, Connecticut Salsa Festival,  Fiesta de San Juan at St. Mary's, The  Door, Lower  East Side Hispanic Community Street Fair,  "Encuentro de las Americas", Caring Hands Latino HIV Awareness Fairs.

HERENCIA (Heritage) founded  by Yvonne Gutierrez exposes young dancers to appreciate the arts (highlighting salsa & flamenco).   The dancers have an opportunity to showcase their acquired skills through performances in different venues.  The youth of Herencia grow with every experience and are always eager to share some of their cultural through dance.
